At the Verizon store, they cautioned me against using the personal hotspot too often and said that it would take a toll on my iPhone 4. Less than 10 seconds later they tried selling me a personal hotspot like the one pictured in your post. I’m not sure whether or not to trust them, since they also said that the iPhone 4 currently (8/2013) retails for over $1000 when on my contract it is listed for around $600. Were they just trying to sell me the separate personal hotspot as I suspect or are there really long-term negative effects to the phone? As it is, I don’t use the personal hotspot often, mostly just once or twice a month for a few mins at a time.

I receive free skype facebook etc on my iphone plan. If i were to turn on my hotspot and use skype facebook etc on my ipad, is it still free?

Could I take my iPhone 5 nano sim card alongwith a nano-sim-to-regular-sim adapter and then insert it into a mobile hotspot? Will it work so that I connect my ipad/laptop etc to tether with the mobile hotspot? Just fyi, I do not have a tethering enabled plan on my iPhone 5.. just have unlimited LTE data.
