I have always relied on third-party software to manage my iPhone contacts and now for the transfer to android as well. I used copytrans contacts ( http://www.copytrans.net/iphone-contacts.php ). which is a good alternative way to transfer the contacts.

iTunes just doesn’t cut it when it gets to iPhone contacts.
