Sick of hitting the Caps Lock key by accident—and suddenly finding yourself typing IN ALL CAPS? Me too.
Well, there’s an easy way to change the behavior of your Mac’s Caps Lock key—or even disable it altogether, if you wish.

You can keep the Caps Lock key from causing mischief by disabling it in the Mac’s Keyboard settings.
Here’s the trick…
- Click the Apple icon in the top-left corner of your desktop, then select System Preferences from the drop-down menu.
- Click the Keyboard icon under Hardware, select the Keyboard tab, then click the “Modifier Keys” button in the bottom-right corner of the preferences pane.
- A new window will slide down with a setting for the “Caps Lock” key at the top. Click the drop-down menu, then pick a new option. If you like, you can turn Caps Lock into a second Control, Option, or Command key. Want to disable the Caps Lock key for good—or until you change your mind, at least? Then pick “No Action.”
- Click the blue OK button.
Now, go ahead and tap the Caps-Lock key. Nothing should happen—and if you’re tired of hitting Caps Lock by accident, that’s a good thing.
