This week, we consider video games—everything from Pac-Man and Space Invaders to Call of Duty and World of Warcraft—from a broader point of view.

Why do people play video games, and what kinds of games are out there? What should you know if you’re the parent of a young gamer? Are video games becoming more like movies—or vice versa? And what about those “social” or “multiplayer” games that let you compete with other players online?
